ITGC – Report for 2007-08 CommitteeThe IT year on the Gold Coast has been one of "steady as she goes". The highlight has been the release of the Gold Coast ICT Capability Directory 2008. This was an initiative of Angelique Richmond for the State government. Together with the State Government's "Queensland ICT – Strengths and Capabilities" publication – this was a visible sign of promoting the business capabilities of IT businesses located on the Coast. We look forward to the on going development of these two publications to further the cause of local IT businesses. The committee met regularly at Marilyn Strauss's home. The number of events was reduced to reflect the times that small businesses on the coast are able to allocate. The highlight of the year was our first Golf day that generated much interest and a field of 32. Richard Munro, Geoff Provest and Pikicentral provided some sponsorship to deliver prizes. A special thanks to Marilyn Strauss who was the person to ensure that all came together on the day. Our other stand out event was a breakfast held at bond University that was addressed by Bob - this was attended by 40 interested people that appreciated an incite into what is happening in the IT world. Our best-attended event was the Mayoral debate prior to the last local elections. We were presented with insights from the candidates and a vote was taken as to who would best deliver for the IT industry on the Coast. There was a stand our winner – unfortunately it was not Ron. That aside it was a very good networking event. The ITGC committee has represented the IT industry at REDAB, the IT Working Party – the group that directly interfaces into the Queensland Government, AIIA events and has promoted ACS events. The coming year is very important for our Industry. With the downturn of the economy, perhaps the new committee will reflect upon the issues that restrict the local industry. I invite the new committee to meet at Marilyn's home on Monday the 17th of November. Neil Pentland |
